The premiere course is the Don Allen Trails about 15 minutes drive north of La Ronge. These trails - named for Don Allen, who established the La Ronge Ski Club - have a variety of loops, from 1 km to 10 km, and a rewarding summit view along one of them. But, the challenge is to get there! The trails are looped so that 15 km, 20 km, 30 km or more can be done continuously, but if you need a break, the ski club has a wood heated shelter at the base.
The other set of ski trails is at Nut Point, just on the northern edge of La Ronge at the provincial campground. The Nut Point trails have about 5 km of loops, and they are lit at night to accommodate moonlight enthusiasts.
Both sets of trails are expertly groomed by the Ministry of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport crew and many dedicated volunteers.
